| Greetings, authors! The final-draft deadline of 4 June 2 June is fast approaching. Stories should be posted to the collection at AO3, which is most easily done by going directly to this link. Doing so will ensure your story posts only to the collection, without revealing you to the public. Following the prompts on this page in order: ( Cut for length ... )
Works will be visible to you, on your AO3 user page (but not in your Works subpage yet!), and they will be visible to community maintainers (me, leesa_perrie, and honorary maintainer sholio). You can edit the story as much as you need at any time. Remember, if you have any problems at all, let me know, and you can list me as a co-author when you contact me if you need me to edit the work directly. If you have any questions or quibbles at all, let me know! (Comments are screened for anonymity.) As new questions are asked/answered or as I encounter anything else to note, I'll edit this post, and I'll make the edits clear with the edit history below, so watch this space! Edit History: 2240 (US EDT) 20 May 2012: Added "don't worry" clarification to "Fandom"; added entire amendment starting with "However" in "Relationships". 2152 (US EDT) 23 May 2012: Corrected final-draft deadline by strikethrough.

| Remember, if you want art, the deadline is today! By "today", consider that to mean that it's Thursday somewhere in the world. Don't sweat hours or minutes. Full draft submissionsIf you have a draft ready, email it to the sga.genficathon user at gmail. I'd prefer that you attach a text file so that we can just transfer that file to the artist, but I can repackage if needed. Make sure to let me know if you're open to the artist knowing your identity! Drafts should be submitted "today", but if you do finish your draft as late as Saturday 10am US EDT, you can send it along. I'll try to include it; no promises. On Saturday, at noon US EDT, I'll post a members-only locked entry at sgagen_art that includes the header info for all submitted drafts. The header info will include a new line indicating whether the author is willing to be revealed to the artist. This entry will initially not allow comments, so that everyone has a chance to read all the entries. Fifteen minutes later, I'll switch the post to allow comments so that claiming can commence. The format will be the same as last year, with all info listed in the body of the post. (This is a tentative plan; please let me know of any problems or questions.) Non-draft submissionsIf you're not submitting a draft but want to participate in the round-two artist matching, leave a comment with your headers, including summary, here. (I'm cross-posting here, at DW, and in the art comm; you may use any of these locations.) I will screen comments, so they will not appear publicly but I will receive notifications for them. I'd prefer to receive those "today", but I will accept them up until noon US EDT Saturday. On Saturday, after I open the full-draft post to claiming, I will then create a second members-only locked post at sgagen_art for the second round. For this post, I will enter each submitted header/summary as a top-level comment, with replies frozen. This should be at about 12:30 US EDT. At 1pm US EDT, I will then remove the freeze on the comments; the first artist to respond, if any, is the claiming artist for that story. No one is guaranteed a match. For claims, I will forward my notification email including the author and all header info, and that artist can then work with that author to get as much detail as possible in order to create art. (Again, this is a tentative plan; so please let me know of any problems or questions.) GeneralRemember, if you're submitting a draft or headers for artist matching, you're committing to finishing your fic in time to have it posted in the Genficathon, so please keep that in mind if you're currently uncertain you can finish. Even if you don't have a draft ready, you should be confident you can wrap up your story within the next month. | |

| Okay, I'm going to be decisive here.
I am pushing out the draft-for-art deadline and the matching day one week. Drafts for art are now due Thursday 10 May with matching scheduled for the following Saturday 12 May.
To those who have already turned in drafts: Thank you. If you send in a revised version of your draft by the new deadline, we'll use that; otherwise, we'll use the version that is already submitted. Artists: The final fic deadline is not changing, but you may use up to a full extra week past that date if you need it to finish your art. I'll adjust the posting dates as needed. Simply let me know if you'll need that week as soon as you know. Matching process, with revisions:
For all authors who turn in a draft by the new deadline, we'll first use last year's method for matching. Your header info will be listed, and artists will choose from those selections. Artists will then be sent the anonymized draft to work from. [Note: If you are open to working directly with the artist, please indicate that when submitting your draft. Authors Artists matched to these fics will have the option of learning the author and the author's contact information. The default will be no-contact.] Links to the finished art will be sent in so that the author (or I) can include the links in the fic posting. [Tangent: If anyone's familiar with posting/linking art at AO3 and would be willing to serve as a consultant, please let me know.]
New: There will then be a second option. Authors, if you do not have a draft ready by the deadline, you can choose to provide only your header information. These headers will then be offered to artists in a second round. There is no promise that these fics will be matched to an artist. If an artist selects one of these options, the author and artist will work together to ensure the artist has enough information to work from. (Yes, this means these authors will not be anonymous to their artists.) Neither authors nor artists are obligated to participate in this option. Authors, please remember that if you do participate in matching, you're indicating that you fully expect to finish your fic by the final deadline. If for some reason you absolutely cannot finish, the artist will be given the option to have their art posted on the fic's scheduled date with an explanatory summary derived from the story information they used. Questions, comments, objections, agreement? Please let me know. Comments are screened.

| The draft deadline for those who want art is upon us — a draft should be sent in by the end of the day Thursday (US time) if you want to be matched with an artist. That may be a problem, because so far only one fic has been turned in. Folks may be using every last second, and if so that's totally fine, but I need to get a sense of whether that's really the case. So: a poll! All authors, please do respond. (Anyone who's already told me they're dropping out can skip this.)

| Do you want to provide art for one or more Genficathon stories? If so, please respond to this post; I will add responders to the sgagen_art community. I'm setting this post to screen comments, so don't worry about anonymity (though artists haven't been anonymous for this fest and won't, I think, be anonymous this time either). The joining deadline is Thursday, 3 May. (The hard deadline is actually Saturday, 5 May, because that's artist/fic matching day, but this ensures I have time to get folks added. I make no promises that I'll be able to add anyone who asks after 3 May in time, though I will try.) The art comm is currently set so that maintainers have to send invitations. (I could probably change it, but I don't want to mess about too much.) You'll therefore want to be sure you're getting notifications in order to receive the invitation. If you have any problems with this setup, please let me know and I'll see what I can do. Please also spread the word to any other artists who may be interested! | |

| Greetings, participants! I hope your stories are going well. There's no need to respond to this post. I just wanted to make sure folks still feel they're on track. If you want art, you'll need to have a draft turned in a little over two weeks from now. We're going to try to run artist matching the same way it was done last year, so I'm going to start by pointing you to this post with last year's details. The dates are just a bit different: Drafts are due Thursday 3 May and the matching will be done Saturday 5 May. In short: You'll need to turn in a draft of your story. It doesn't need to be in its final version; but it should be artist-readable, and it should not have any major revisions (such as a drastic change of plot) after it's turned in. You must also include header information (title, summary, approximate word count, and so forth). These headers will be used in the artist claiming. To turn in a draft, send it to the Gmail address for this comm (sga.genficathon). If you're just not ready by then, you don't have to turn in a draft! You can still participate in the Genficathon without art (or can provide your own art/artist, if you prefer). All stories must be posted to AO3 by Saturday 2 June to be included. I'll throw together various details for formatting and headers and such, with the goal of posting that this coming weekend. [Very short guidance: To post, don't just go to your user and upload the story as standard. Instead, go to this link — or go to the collection and click the "post to collection" button; both end up at the same place. This will ensure the fic remains hidden from the public and, when I release it, posts as "Anonymous" until the collection is revealed. You can post whenever you're ready, and it should remain editable as long as you need, still hidden from the public.] I will be reviewing the artist match details shortly to be better informed myself. If you have any questions about anything for this fest, please feel free to ask them here or email/PM them to me. (Note: The reason this post is as late in the process as it is, and the reason I'm not switching to the comm user to post it, has to do with my RL being a bit out of control. (Just overbooked, no emergencies, so please don't worry!) I am trying to prioritize this event over other fandom stuff; if I'm at all unresponsive, please don't be shy about poking me!) Good luck and good writing! | |
|
| These are just a few updates and details about the posting schedule; I thought a few folks might be interested. Due to some late adjustments, we now have 21 writers signed up. At one story per day, that's three full weeks of posting if everyone stays in! (I could limit posting to two weeks, but I'd like to give everyone's story one day of individual exposure, and three weeks seems a reasonable upper limit for that.) ( More details within ... ) | |
|
| Assignments have now been sent to all folks (and a query to the one question mark). If you don't receive your assignment email, or if it contains an error, please contact this user or michelel72 right away. Otherwise, please see the immediately prior post for details and deadlines, and please watch this community for additional information about posting to AO3 and artist matching. Good luck to everyone with your stories! | |
|
| The signups are now officially closed! If you signed up before this post, you'll be included. (Yes, that includes the couple of stragglers. *cough*) I'll be sending out emails with category and prompt assignments over the next few days. My goals are participation and fun. I don't want folks to feel too stressed about this! If you receive an assigned prompt that's just a non-starter for you, let me know and I'll spin the wheel for you again if you like. Similarly, if you try to get somewhere with your prompt and just can't, let me know. (Please use this option sparingly; but at the same time, I would much rather be flexible than see folks have to drop out.) If your fic takes a left turn on you so that it would be better suited to a different category, please let me know that as well. I make no guarantees, but there is a small amount of room for shuffling. If you absolutely must drop out, please let me know as soon as you can do so. Everyone participating should now have an AO3 account or an invitation for one. If you still need an AO3 account invitation (for yourself or for a cowriter), please let me know; I have a few left. If you have an artist you want to work with directly, want to provide your own art, or don't want art, you're good to go. If you'll want to be matched to an artist, you must have at least a rough draft by Thursday, 3 May. If you know how to post to AO3 collections, you'll want to post to the SGA_GenFicathon_2012 collection and may do so whenever your fic is ready. The collection is (or should be!) unrevealed at this point. I will be posting a guide in the next few weeks with details for folks who aren't as comfortable with posting to AO3 collections, as well as details of specific preferences for this collection. All stories and art are due Saturday 2 June and I will reveal one fic per day starting Monday 4 June. Author reveals will be done the Monday after the fics run out, and the bonus round will open that same day. To reach me, you can PM or email this user or michelel72. For email, please use the gmail.com addresses (sga.genficathon and michelel72 respectively). Please do not use @livejournal.com addresses for either user; they are not coming through. (Thanks to writerjc for alerting me to this!) You may also comment here; comments are screened, but I'll leave reponses in clear if they're useful for the comm. | |

| Remember, signups for this year close midnight tonight (EST)! | |
|
| Author sign-ups close one week from today! The signups look good — lower than in years past, but still a nice representation. However, we could still really use some folks for the Humor category, since at the moment absolutely no one has signed up for it. Please spread the word! We could also use one or two folks for Team. Any amendments to signups should be made as comments on the signup post, please. You can edit your comment, reply to your own comment, or comment again to the main post; any of those is fine. Signup numbers are under the cut for those who are interested: ( Numbers ) | |

| leesa_perrie has created a lovely collection of banners here, but she has asked that I post a call as well. Any and all bannermakers, please feel free to contribute! You can leave your image links in comments here. | |

| SIGNUPS ARE OPEN! The signup period will be from now until Wednesday 15 February 2012 at midnight US EST. Assignments will go out by the following Monday. We will also have artists providing art for this year's stories. Artist signups and story claiming will be on Saturday 5 May 2012. ( Info and signup form. )If you have any questions, post a comment here; email this user; email sga.genficathon at Gmail; or PM or email michelel72. | |

| This post contains a prompts list for the 2012 Stargate Atlantis Gen Ficathon. This list is meant to be used in conjunction with the 2012 signup post. Access is not locked, but browsing is strongly discouraged. ( Prompts within. ) | |
|
| In order to start the 2012 round of the Stargate Atlantis Gen Ficathon, we'll need prompts! Writers will have options (assigned prompt(s), prompt selected from a restricted list, or prompt-free), and a strong selection is valuable. Submit prompts here. Responses will be screened to keep the full list secret. Prompts can be words, phrases, sayings, song lyrics, events, emotions, things, places, specific items/places from the show, etc. A prompt should be vague enough that it can apply to any of the ficathon's different genre areas (Friendship, Angst, Team, Humor, Action/Adventure, AU, or Supporting Character Appreciation Day). You can list as many prompts in a comment as you like. Duplicating prompts from prior years is fine, and prior submissions may be pulled in during the selection/assignments phase. [This post will close at the end of the day (by US EST) on Saturday, January 28, just before author signups open. Posted schedules have been adjusted to account for this.] [Additional note from michelel72: Once author signups open, I will post notices at sga_noticeboard, sga_noticeboard, polyfandom_gen, and fandomcalendar. I'm also open to suggestions for other locations to notify.] 0200 EST 29 January 2012: Prompts are now closed | |

| Hello, all! It's not quite time for the SGA Genficathon to get started ... but that time is growing close. I therefore wanted to post a tentative schedule in time to make adjustments as well as announce a few changes. ( Schedule details ... )( Changes for 2012/AO3 information ... )( Miscellaneous notes ... )That's all I have for the moment. Please let me know of any questions, concerns, problems, AO3 invite requests, or general thoughts. I can be reached by comment here; by PM here or at DW; or by email (I have the same username @livejournal.com, @gmail.com, or @dreamwidth.org; those all eventually reach me at Gmail). Where possible, please note "SGA Gen" or similar in the subject line so that I can keep track. Otherwise, see you in a few weeks! | |

| The Genficathon will change, but it can continue! sholio has done a great job these past four years (thank you!) but is bowing out. That doesn't mean the days of the SGA gen fic fest are over, though. I don't know yet its future form. If anyone has a passion to take on its next generation, I certainly don't want to get in the way. Otherwise, though, I'm definitely willing to give it a try, because there clearly is interest. I would be most interested in using the Archive of Our Own (AO3) system and model, due to its comparative ease (and LJ's DDoS woes), but I don't know how much interest that would inspire. In order to get a feel along those lines, then, a poll: ( Poll behind cut ... )(Post cleared with sholio.) | |

| Hi again! This is an announcement that I didn't want to make during the period of the fest itself, but now that it's all over and done, I figured it was time to come out and officially announce that this is the last year I'll be running the SGA Genficathon. There's no specific reason -- nothing bad has happened, nothing like that. It's just that I've been doing it for four years and I've really enjoyed it (well, most of it *g*), but my passion for SGA is no longer as strong as it once was, and I want to go out on a high note rather than keep doing it until it becomes a struggle and a burden. If someone else wants to run Genficathon next year, I can turn over all the passwords and admin accounts to them. If someone wants to run their own Genficathon (probably by far the easier option, rather than trying to pick it up from me), either using my rules (which are actually very loosely based off the first year's mcshep_match rules) or their own, they are welcome to do so with my blessing. Either way, I'll be happy to offer any advice that I can, on the basis of my four years of running this fest. I have no plans to take anything down, so all your stories and comments will remain right where they are. I'm not leaving fandom and I'll still be an administrator on the Genficathon account; I just have no plans to run another fest next year (but I have many warm and happy memories of the four years I've been doing it). I'm very grateful to everyone for their assistance and support -- writers, artists, behind-the-scenes assistant mods, readers/commenters, and everyone else who has helped to make the Genficathon a success. When I first floated the idea, back in 2007, I had vague fears of getting no reaction at all (what if they gave a fanfic fest and no one came??), but the response has been absolutely great, each and every year. We've had a wide variety of stories featuring every single character in the main and supporting cast, running the gamut from pun-filled humor to novel-length action to serious stories tackling political issues; one year we even had a "choose your own adventure" story! It's been a great four years and I'm proud to have been a part of it. Thank you all so much. | |
|
| Thank you so much for your patience! Without further ado, here is our 2011 list of stories with authors. ( 2011 Genficathon Masterlist )All the stories have had the author names and any extra stuff (beta thanks, etc) edited in. Please let me know if you need any changes/edits/corrections made to your story. You are now free to repost stories elsewhere, talk about them on your LJ and so forth. | |

| There was a request to hold off on the Genficathon reveals for a little while, to give people more time to read and guess.
The main reason I was going to do them this weekend was because I am leaving early tomorrow morning on vacation and won't be back 'til the 12th. It is possible that I might be able to do the reveals while I'm gone, but I'm not counting on getting that much uninterrupted Internet time. However, I'd be fine with waiting to reveal them 'til the 12th or 13th, to give people more time to read and enjoy the stories while they're still anonymous, as long as the authors don't mind having to wait another week to get credit for their stories! (Actually, it'd be one less thing to do today, which would make my life somewhat easier.)
ETA: It looks like everyone is being very understanding, and since the day is slipping away from me rapidly, I'm going to go ahead and bump back the reveals another week. Reveals will be up on the 12th or 13th, when I'm back from vacation. Thank you for your patience!
